Establishing Requirements for Proton Conductors to Enable Stable Production of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells
Proton-conducting Ceramic Fuel Cells (PCFCs) are promising for carbon-neutral hydrogen power generation, but current high-performance solid electrolyte materials rely on costly rare metals, limiting industrial viability. This research aims to establish material design guidelines integrating industrial constraints — cost and resource availability — from the outset. Using computational materials science and atomic-level structural control, we screen earth-abundant elements, identify promising candidates, and validate them experimentally, targeting both practical conductivity and industrial feasibility.
