PhotoTritium is used as a fuel in fusion reactors, which are expected to be a next-generation energy source. Since the amount of lithium is extremely small when naturally occurring, tritium production using high-temperature gas reactors is being considered. However, tritium retention behavior in materials in high-temperature environments is still unknown, and clarification of these issues is essential from the viewpoint of safety. In this study, tritium permeation experiments will be conducted using a test specimen that simulates the core of a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. The experimental results will be analyzed from a chemical engineering viewpoint to model the tritium permeation behavior and to elucidate the basic tritium migration phenomena.
